Chapter Twenty-One

They didn’t talk as they drove back to his house, but Cole held her hand as they both kept an eye on Moses in the back seat sprawled out asleep. She seemed content after her morning adventure. Viviane drove on automatic pilot thinking about what happened in the exam room. The kiss was perfect and felt like a first kiss. I hope this begins a new phase with Cole. Dating him will be better than before, because I’m a healthier, happier person. Having a personal relationship with God will help us both.

Cole couldn’t wait to talk to Viviane about moving their relationship forward but didn’t think it was a conversation for the car. When they pulled into his driveway, he was surprised to see his parents still there. He opened the back door for Moses to charge up the front porch, flying to find his parents in the kitchen preparing a late lunch.

“Hi, Mom and Dad. The vet said Moses is okay, spoiled rotten but okay.”

Moses sauntered to Carson and Lynn wagging her tail as she begged for attention. Carson bent over to pet her when Lynn fussed at him. “Carson West, you better wash your hands before you continue to help me with lunch.”

Carson chuckled while petting Moses. “Yes, dear.”

After a thorough greeting to the dog, Carson stood up to wash his hands. Lynn turned to Viviane. “I’m glad you were here to help us. Dad told me you felt prompted by God to come up.” She wiped her hands on a towel and walked to Moses. “I never grow tired of hearing how God takes special care of our needs. Cole told us you were the one who found Mo and he made it clear we would have lost her if it hadn’t been for you.”

Viviane watched her bend over to pet Moses whose tail wagged furiously. She noticed Lynn hadn’t changed much over the years, almost matching her husband’s six-foot height with her own 5’9”. Her light brown hair was sprinkled with some gray that looked elegant on her. Still pretty trim from an active family life, Viviane wasn’t surprised to see she was still a strong, formidable woman. She has to be with three active men in her life.

Moses was elated when Lynn started petting her. Lynn might seem tough to everyone else, but she often snuck her food from the table. Moses knew this woman didn’t know the meaning of scraps, because she always ate very well when Lynn visited.

“Thank you, I’m glad I could help.” Viviane walked further into the kitchen and smelled something wonderful cooking on the stove. “Is there something I can do to help?”

“No dear, Dad and I are almost done with a chicken pasta salad.” Lynn moved to wash her hands. “Cole, why don’t you and Viviane give Moses a bath? Lunch will be done by then.” She started to chop spinach for the salad. “We knew you’d be hungry. It’s almost one. I bet you two didn’t have breakfast.
